Specialist Classes – November 2025

Our specialist classes have provided students with a vibrant end to the year, full of hands-on learning and creative exploration. They have been building and coding, celebrating cultural traditions and reflecting on achievements.

STEM/ICT

Foundation students have been using iPads and a coding app to program Dash robots. They applied their coding skills and enjoyed adding sound effects to bring their robots to life.

Year 2 students conducted a balloon-rocket experiment while learning about Newton’s Third Law of Motion. They discovered how air rushing out of a balloon creates an equal and opposite force, pushing the rocket forward. Students were eager to test their predictions and observe the results.

Year 4 students have been designing, building and programming Spike Prime Lego creations. Working collaboratively, they developed problem-solving skills while testing different mechanisms and celebrating successful automation. It was a fantastic blend of creativity, teamwork and hands-on learning.

Library

Our Year 3 students got “Lost in the Library”! Over two weeks, they worked in small groups to complete an escape room-style challenge, solving a series of numeracy and literacy puzzles.

With teamwork and perseverance, they successfully cracked the code and escaped the library!

Spanish

Our Year 2 students practised Christmas vocabulary in Spanish and created puppets to take home. Can you spot Papá Noel y el reno (Father Christmas and the reindeer)?

Year 3 students are learning about La Navidad en Perú (Christmas in Peru). They have started designing their own Christmas llamas. Did you know families in Peru celebrate with a feast on 24 December and exchange gifts on Christmas Eve?

In Year 4, we explored an interesting tradition from Mexico called Las Posadas, meaning: The Inns. This tradition involves families moving from house-to-house for 9 nights from 16 December, reenacting the way Mary and Joseph looked for shelter before the birth of Christ.

Year 5 students have embraced the Christmas spirit by creating a tarjeta de deseos (a card of wishes) for someone they care about.

Religion/Values

As the year comes to a close and the season of Advent begins, students have been learning about its significance and exploring the Christmas story. They have created stained glass art, festive decorations and Christmas cards, and are preparing for a Christmas play.

Meanwhile, Year 5 students are completing a mosaic project that reflects the spirit of the season.

Performing Arts

Students have been reflecting on their concert experience and learning what makes a successful performance. Together, they explored the key criteria of strong performance and assessed their own work using these standards. Students shared their favourite moments and challenges, and gave thoughtful feedback, learning that even great performances can improve.

“I liked the whole thing because I had so much fun.” – Tegh, Foundation B

“I liked when we did the Bhangra. It’s a good dance to learn because you’re learning new things.” – Tait, Year 2A

“I loved to perform because I wanted to show that I practised a lot.” – Avneet, Year 3A

Health & PE

Students from Years 1–5 have finished the year strongly, demonstrating their developing cricket skills, which include batting, bowling and fielding, during our recent clinics. Foundation students have also had a great time practicing their AFL skills. All year levels are now looking forward to participating in swimming lessons to finish the school year.
