FOUNDATION – YEAR 2


Foundation to Year 2 students are actively engaged in learning as they await the arrival of spring.

Foundation students are enjoying fairy tales and Dreamtime stories, which is inspiring their own story writing. They have been exploring early multiplication skills by making groups using different manipulatives.

Year 1 students are also exploring multiplication concepts and developing their understanding of the language of equal and unequal. They continue to distinguish between fiction and non-fiction texts, which develops both their reading and narrative writing skills.

They are also exploring the unique features of Australian habitats in preparation for an excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary.

Year 2 classes are researching animals and learning to write structured paragraphs for their information reports. With the help of Numicon shapes, they have also been solving multiplication facts.

Another exciting activity has seen Year 2 students designing cameras with detailed illustrations, showcasing their holiday adventures on film.

Foundation A students have been exploring fairy tales. All students found the Fairytale Fiasco incursion highly engaging and fun, with opportunities to dress up in two costumes and take part in their own fairy tale performance, showcasing some impressive acting skills.
Using all the letter sounds they’ve been learning, Foundation B began constructing detailed sentences and stories. We enjoy seeing their imaginative writing and the delight it brings when they share their ideas.
Year 1 students have made a fantastic start to Term 3, especially in Mathematics! We have been diving into multiplication – exploring the concept of equal and unequal groups.

Through hands-on activities and engaging maths games, students have been learning how to form equal groups and write number sentences to match. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they apply their new skills in a fun and interactive way.
In Integrated Studies, we have begun our exciting journey into Australian environments. Using a combination of personal experiences, rich texts, and classroom investigations, students have explored the characteristics of the city, the coast, deserts, and rainforests.

We have been comparing these environments and discussing the types of living things found in each. To showcase their learning, students created detailed drawings of all four environments, which they proudly shared with the class.
Year 2A students have commenced their animal research adventure! After exploring fascinating facts about different creatures, they designed and crafted their very own animal habitats – bringing them to life in an amazing art collage!

The students of 2B are applying strategies from Semester 1, such as skip counting, number sequences, and bundling knowledge to explore multiplication using number lines. They enjoyed representing 4 x 5 with five cent pieces and 10 x 8 with MAB tens blocks.


YEARS 3 – 5


It’s always a joy to hear the hum of busy classrooms filled with curious minds.

Year 3 students have been exploring the wonders of the Earth, Sun and Moon. Their recent discussions have included the August full “Sturgeon” moon and the planets that can be spotted with the naked eye this month.

For those eager to join the stargazing fun, there are some fantastic free apps to help identify what’s shining in our night sky.

Our Year 4 classes are delving into the early exploration of Australia. They are investigating some of the first foreign and European visitors, the story of the First Fleet – who was on board, why it was sent – and, importantly, the impact this had on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

They will soon attend an excursion to the tall ship “Enterprize”, a replica of a sailing ship from the 1830s, as they learn about the foundation of Melbourne.

Year 5 are currently testing their scientific knowledge of animals and their adaptations. They are learning to distinguish between physical and behavioural adaptations, and how these traits help animals survive in their environments.

This learning will soon come to life with an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo, offering a perfect opportunity to see adaptations in action. Just remember to rug up warm… unlike most wild animals, we humans don’t come with built-in fur or feathers!

Year 3A has blasted off into our new Earth and Space unit! We have been exploring amazing facts about the Sun, Moon, and Earth. From their enormous sizes to the unique features setting each of them apart. We are looking forward to discovering more in the weeks ahead.

Year 3B has been exploring times tables and division facts by building arrays and connecting them to related fact families. Students are learning what the tables represent and the importance of quick recall.

Late last term, Glen from Wattletree Beekeeping shared his fascinating working beehive with us. Year 4 students learned about the life cycle of bees, the important roles they play in our environment, and how they produce honey. They also tasted fresh honey and created their own beeswax candle. It was a wonderful experience for all!

Year 4 students began Literacy Circles this term, exploring stories linked to our Integrated Studies topic, ‘The Explorers’. Reading Jackie French novels aloud in teams, they examined the First Fleet’s arrival and its impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Over five weeks, five activity rotations will develop their comprehension skills through varied and engaging learning experiences.

Inspired by the movie, Chicken Run, the students of Year 5 designed their own chickens and calculated how many eggs they would lay in a day, a month, and a year. An excellent way to practise problem-solving and multiplication!

Every Wednesday at lunchtime, our Year 5 Chess Club welcomes players of all skill levels, from beginners to those with plenty of experience. Students enjoy friendly games, learn new strategies, and strengthen their problem-solving skills. It’s the perfect way to spend a lunch break – thinking hard, having fun, and making new friends over the chessboard.
