During Term 3, Foundation A has explored some Australian picture books, including The Colours of Home by Sally Soweol Han, The Emperor’s Egg by Rae Tan and Frogs Are Our Friends, written by Toni D’Alia and illustrated by Madeline White.
Most recently, they used craft materials to create their own three-dimensional frog with a tongue to catch mosquitoes. Gribbit, gribbit!
STEM/ICT
A group of enthusiastic Year 6 students have been selected to represent Clyde Grammar at the upcoming RoboCup Junior competition. The event gives young people the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through practical robotics challenges.
In preparation for the competition, students have been working collaboratively in teams to design, build and code their LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robots. Students are looking forward to putting their creativity, problem-solving skills and teamwork into practice as they compete alongside students from other schools.
Spanish
To start Term 3, Year 3 students have been revising body parts such as cabeza (head), pies (feet), barriga (stomach), oído (ear) and garganta (throat) through video and song. They have used their imagination and simple props to role play a visit to the doctor, using statements such as “Me duele la cabeza” (My head hurts) and “Me duelen los pies” (My feet hurt).
It is brilliant to see them referring to posters, pictures and examples in their workbooks to use Spanish confidently in health related scenarios.
Religion & Values
This term, students have been exploring stories from the Old Testament, beginning with God’s creation and learning that every person is created in God’s image and likeness. Year 1 students learnt about the stories of Abraham and Joseph, discovering that God always keeps His promises and is with us through every situation.
Through these stories, students reflected on the Christian values of trust, faith, hope, perseverance and gratitude, and how they can live these values in their daily lives.
Performing Arts
Students are beginning an exciting term of Dance, exploring a variety of styles. Foundation and Year 1 students are using picture books and toys as inspiration for creative movement, Year 2 is travelling through the decades of dance and Year 3 is discovering jazz.
Year 4 is learning hip hop, Year 5 is learning dances from around the world and Year 6 is diving into the world of musical theatre. We look forward to seeing students further develop their performance skills throughout the term.
Health & PE
What a great start to Term 3 in Health and Physical Education! Students have been making the most of everything our new Collaborative Learning Centre (gym) has to offer.
Sports such as tennis, badminton and volleyball have been a huge hit across all year levels, providing students with opportunities to develop teamwork, strategic thinking and skills specific to each sport while enjoying the new space.
Lunchtimes have also been buzzing with activity as many students have been making the most of the new facilities while preparing for upcoming athletics, basketball and netball competitions later this term. It has been encouraging to see so many students showing initiative, building their skills and supporting one another as they train.
Visual Art
This term in Art, we are changing things up by moving from 2D to 3D. Students will explore sculpture, using a variety of materials and techniques to create their artworks. These sculptures will form part of our ‘Dream Garden’ theme and will be proudly displayed at our art exhibition at the end of the year.
In Foundation, students are sculpting cute garden creatures from clay. They are bringing their sculptures to life by using sculpting tools to add intricate details and metallic paints to create colour and shine.
The Year 1 students have shown determination and patience as they learnt the skill of clay modelling. They have created realistic koi fish that look as though they are swimming through a pond. Using clay, they have carefully joined each piece together using a special construction technique, resulting in beautifully crafted sculptures.
Year 2 students have been quietly engrossed in the challenging art of weaving. Using colourful wool, they have created woven loom wheels while developing their patience, concentration and fine motor skills.
