From the Classroom – October 2025

FOUNDATION – YEAR 2

Our busy Term 4 continues for Foundation to Year 2 students.

Foundation students are enthusiastically engaging with their Inquiry topic, In the Garden. Both garden beds have now been planted with seeds and seedlings, and students are enjoying the hands-on experience of watching their garden grow. Through this topic, students have learned about the different parts of a plant, what a root vegetable is, and the essential elements plants need to thrive.

In preparation for end-of-year assessments, students have also been working hard to strengthen their story writing skills. In Mathematics, they have been exploring number partitioning, discovering how numbers can be broken down into smaller parts in different ways.

Year 1 students have been exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and poetry. They began with Somebody’s Land, learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, their connection to Country, and the meaning of the Aboriginal flag. Students also shared their own family backgrounds, celebrating diversity within the class. In poetry, they explored different forms such as rhyming, acrostic, and five senses poems, and have enjoyed expressing their creativity through their own writing.

In Year 2 this term, students have been exploring measurement by using scales and comparing quantities. They investigated how many items, such as bear counters or icy pole sticks, are needed to balance or create equal amounts. Students also celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, by creating Diya lamps and their own vibrant rangoli patterns using chalk.

Foundation A have been revising patterns using their new colourful dinosaurs to create many different versions. It has been wonderful to see what students have been able to design.
Foundation B enjoyed their time at the park with their buddies. They played on the equipment, counted frogs, and made up imaginative games together.
Year 1B have been learning about Aboriginal art and experimenting with their own creative expressions. This photo features an Aboriginal flag by Ranbir, a Rainbow Serpent artwork by Gurbani, and artefacts shared by Lachlan.
In Mathematics, Year 2A students are learning about flip, slide, and turn. They have been exploring how shapes move and change position through these transformations. Students worked in pairs, using their bodies to demonstrate each movement.
Year 2B have been exploring Forces and Motion in Science. Through hands-on experiments, they investigated how objects move using push and pull forces. A highlight was using straws to keep feathers afloat, turning a simple concept into an engaging classroom challenge. Their enthusiasm and wonder have truly brought physics to life in the classroom.

YEARS 3 – 5

It is a busy and productive time in Years 3-5 as students prepare for various assessments. Over the coming weeks, students will complete assessments in different areas of Mathematics and English.

These assessments help teachers gain a clear picture of each student’s progress and how well they have retained important skills and knowledge. We aim to make this process as calm and stress-free as possible. Students are simply encouraged to try their best. While a little nervous energy is natural, we work hard to keep pressure to a minimum.

You can support this by ensuring your child arrives at school on time, well-rested and ready for the day.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.

On Thursday, 16 October, our Year 3 students enjoyed their much-anticipated school sleepover. The evening began with pizza and ice cream for dinner, followed by a two-hour disco featuring all the students’ favourite songs and some exciting prizes. Students danced enthusiastically, showing off their best moves.

After a good night’s sleep, everyone was up early for breakfast before participating in the TaskWorks incursion. The session focused on engineering using nuts and bolts, with students working together to build creations such as go-karts, trains and robots. It was a memorable experience filled with fun, collaboration and creativity. Thank you to all the staff who supported the event and to our Year 3 students for their positive energy throughout.

Our Year 4 students are participating in an exciting two-week Egg Challenge, where they are caring for and protecting their eggs. This activity allows students to practise responsibility and nurturing skills. The project leads into the upcoming Science unit, where students will design a capsule to protect their egg from a five-metre fall.

Year 4 students recently enjoyed an excursion to the Enterprize Tall Ship. They stepped back in time to experience life as early settlers arriving in Melbourne. Students explored the ship, learned about navigation and listened to stories of early voyages. The visit provided valuable insights into Melbourne’s history in a hands-on and engaging way.

As part of their Art and Humanities unit on Light and Space, Year 5 students explored a range of painting techniques to express their creativity. Using sponges to dab and blend paint, they created colourful galaxy artworks using only three colours. Students discovered how layering and texture can enhance their artwork and bring their galaxies to life.
