Specialist Classes – May 2026

STEM/ICT

This term in Technologies lessons, students have been focusing on Digital Technologies.

Year 2 students have been participating in the online program EdClub, continuing to develop their typing speed and accuracy. Through this platform, students have also been learning about digital citizenship, exploring how the internet works, how to participate safely in online and offline communities, and strategies for staying safe online.

Year 6 students have been exploring the concept of ‘smart cities’, learning how data is collected and used within digital systems and how these systems work together as networks to transmit information.

Students designed their own smart city using an online program, incorporating systems such as traffic management, street lighting, transport, and buildings into their designs. Through this project, students developed their understanding of how technology can improve the way cities function.

Spanish

This term in Spanish, Year 4 students are using items such as windmills, cotton balls, play dough, mini paper parasols, paper snow flakes, toy hats and mini figurines to explore seasonal and weather-based knowledge. They are relishing the chance to apply their developing oral language skills while creating scenes to demonstrate: Today it is windy, cloudy, sunny, rainy, and others.

Year 2 students have been accompanied by a growing number of soft toy ‘amigos’ (friends). Students enthusiastically welcome, greet and learn the names of their ‘amigos’ when they arrive in the classroom. It is a joy to hear students use their Spanish communication skills with each other too!

Religion/Values

This term in Religion and Values, students explored important celebrations and values such as ANZAC Day and Mother’s Day while discussing themes of love and respect.

Year 6 students also learned about God’s Spirit, His mission, and how His teachings can be lived out through everyday actions. As part of this learning, students visited classes to support younger students and teachers through acts of kindness, service, encouragement, and leadership. This meaningful experience encouraged empathy, responsibility and community spirit within our school.

Performing Arts

Across the school, students have been developing their collaboration skills in Performing Arts through partner and small group activities. In Drama this term, students are working together to rehearse, problem-solve and perform group pieces while building confidence and communication skills along the way.

Term 2 has had a flying start with students exploring and learning from inspiring local and national artists. Across all year levels, they have been exploring the designs and creative processes of artists Anna Blatman, Dean Bowen, Bryan Nash Gill and Wassily Kandinsky.

Foundation students created their own Funky Birds filled with vibrant colour and layered detail. They also explored drawing and painting circles to create both abstract artworks and flower garden pieces.

Year 1 students created farm landscape artworks using paint sticks and paint pens, building blocks of colour and adding detailed patterns over the top. Printmaking techniques were also used to create fun above and below ground garden scenes which included cute echidnas drawn with softly blended, lighter-toned backgrounds.

Year 2 students enjoyed creating their own scratch paper before carving detailed mushroom undersides and tree cross-sections using scratch art techniques.
